ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN LAS VEGAS WITH VIKING SPIRIT
In conjunction with the Leif Erikson Drawing Competition, Sons of Norway Vegas Lodge represented by Christian Schoyen, Bob Sturgeon and Rick Senzig visited elementary schools in Clark County to teach Viking history and about the four core Viking traits; also presented in the book: YOUR SECOND CHANCE - With Viking Spirit. One school visited that particularly stood out with their strong enthusiasm was the Alexander Dawson school. Their Summerlin students who are participating in the competition impressed with their high level of knowledge and strong interest in the subject matter. The same day as the lecture for the more than 60 students, which took place on October 14th, their school unveiled its' own Viking museum, showcasing crafts created from the Viking era. Alexander Dawson is one the leading schools in Nevada as well as nationwide due to its excellent faculty and its unique approach to learning by integrating the emphasis on developing the important core traits in their students while they are in their most critical years. The Las Vegas Review – Journal quoted guest speaker Christian Schoyen in an interview on Oct 30th, 2012 saying "We can influence young minds, especially when they’re the most open (under age 12)," he said. ""Eighty-five percent of your conditioning is fixed before you’re 12."
